DAL VADA | Chana Dal Vada | Chattambade |
Ingredients:
- split chickpeas/ channa dal - 1 cup (soaked for 1/2 hour OR for soak 1 to 2 hours)
- Green chilli - 1 (Add green chilli as per your taste)
- Curry leaves - 8 to 10
- Ginger - 1 tsp finely chopped
- Asafoetida powder/ hing - 1/4 th tsp
- Coconut - 2 tbsp diced fresh
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- Optional ingredients:
- 1 onion- finely chopped
- 1/4 cup coriander leaves- finely chopped.
METHOD:
- In a Mixer grind : Soaked Channa Dal (keep aside 1/4th part for later use), Ginger, Green chilli, Curry Leaves, Hing, Salt, and Coconut,
- make a coarse paste in the mixer
- Now add the remaining 1/4th channa dal to the mixer and again grind coarsely,
- DO NOT GRIND IT INTO A FINE PASTE,
- Remove the coarsely grind paste into a bowl,
- add diced coconut and mix well,
- Here you can also add chopped onion/coriander leaves,
- make small flat vadas from the mixture and set it aside,
- meanwhile, heat Oil in a pan,
- after the oil is hot enough, fry the vada on medium flame till golden brown colour on each side,
- Serve with Chutney.
