DAL VADA | Chana Dal Vada | Chattambade |





Ingredients:


  1. split chickpeas/ channa dal       -      1 cup (soaked for 1/2 hour OR  for soak 1 to 2 hours)
  2. Green chilli                               -     1   (Add green chilli as per your taste)
  3. Curry leaves                              -     8 to 10
  4. Ginger                                       -     1 tsp finely chopped 
  5. Asafoetida powder/ hing            -  1/4 th tsp 
  6. Coconut                                    -   2 tbsp diced fresh 
  7. Salt to taste


  • Oil for deep frying
  • Optional ingredients:
  • 1 onion- finely chopped 
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves- finely chopped.


METHOD:

  1. In a Mixer grind : Soaked Channa Dal (keep aside 1/4th part for later use), Ginger, Green chilli, Curry Leaves, Hing, Salt, and Coconut,
  2. make a coarse paste in the mixer
  3. Now add the remaining 1/4th channa dal to the mixer and again grind coarsely,
  4. DO NOT GRIND IT INTO A FINE PASTE,
  5. Remove the coarsely grind paste into a bowl, 
  6. add diced coconut and mix well,
  7. Here you can also add chopped onion/coriander leaves,
  8. make small flat vadas from the mixture and set it aside,
  9. meanwhile, heat Oil in a pan,
  10. after the oil is hot enough, fry the vada on medium flame till golden brown colour on each side,
  11. Serve with Chutney.
